Our sweet little man is almost 2, but I finally got around to finishing his vintage-inspired nursery. Kids rooms are one of my favorite spaces to design— I can get a little more whimsical and fun than I usually do. But I still like to keep my same aesthetic and create a room that I know will grow with them. I had the bones already done before he was born, but in a way, I enjoyed finishing when he was older because I know his personality better. Infusing things that remind me of him is just going to help this space last and grow with him. So let’s dive into all the details of his soft, still and cozy vintage-inspired nursery!
How We Decided on a Neutral, Earthy Nursery
If you know me, you know I’m drawn to earthy neutrals. And that’s exactly what I was drawn to for Savio’s room. When I found out I was pregnant, it meant that we’d be doing some room swaps. This room had previously been Odelia’s and not long before I had just given it a big girl update.

I was sad to change things up in here, especially the wallpaper, but after I found this beautiful neutral gingham wallpaper, it got me excited again. And what was even more exciting was when I realized I could wallpaper over wallpaper. Did you know that?!

It made things A LOT easier and helped create a solid starting point for the rest of the nursery decor.
The Vintage Pieces That Made the Whole Room Click into Place
Obviously, there were going to be lots of vintage pieces mixed in this room. It’s my favorite way to decorate. The crib we had previously used felt a little too modern and had seen better days, so I set out to find a new one. And Facebook Marketplace came in HUGE. I scored the CUTEST antique spindle crib for only $40!

We gave it a good clean and checked for lead which it was thankfully free of. I adore the little scallop detail on the bottom edge.
Other vintage pieces I brought in to add more charm and character included a little side table, a mirror, a scalloped shelf and an antique dresser. When he was first born, we had a lower dresser we used as a changing table, but since he’s gotten older, I switched it out for a taller one.

My Favorite Details
And of course there’s lots of little vintage decor pieces to finish it all off. That might be my favorite part of decorating any room…the finishing touches. The little pieces that hold special meaning. A simple picture, a special book, a hand-knit sweater. Those are what make a room come to life and make you feel something when you walk in.
My mom hand knit this sweater for Savio and I couldn’t resist hanging it on display.

My mom and I also made the pouf together after I saw one online that was much too expensive.
A small shop made this special silhouette of his little baby face and it’s something I’ll cherish forever.

I found the cross-stitch art above his crib at a local thrift store for $10 and had it hanging in Odelia’s nursery first.

These are the nursery details that matter.
The DIY Projects That Make it Feel Custom
One major thing we did in this space was add faux ceiling beams. This was done when we turned it into Odelia’s room and added such a custom feel. For this room, we switched up the paint and went with Bear Rug by Behr which is such a warm and cozy color. And it pairs perfectly with the wallpaper.

Another major DIY is the murphy bed. Since Papa lives in the basement, we don’t have space for a guest room so we use this room. When my parents come to stay, Savi sleeps in our room with us and my parents pull down the murphy bed and sleep in here.
I wanted to make sure it was a piece that still blended into the decor and it totally looks like a wardrobe. It takes up some space, but it’s also super functional and what we need.

We also updated the bi-fold closet doors by adding trim and painting them as well as adding new hardware. It totally transformed the look of something super basic. The paint color for the closet doors and trim is Baby Fawn by Benjamin Moore.
The most recent little project I did was create a cozy little book nook. I painted some affordable shelves from Amazon, made a cute DIY shade for a battery powered sconce and used some fabric I found at the antique store to make custom mats for cute Frog & Toad prints.
The Final Reveal
This room holds so much meaning knowing that it’s the last nursery I’ll ever design for one of our own children. I absolutely adore how it turned out and can’t wait to see how it evolves as Savio grows!

It’s adorable! Do you have a source for the picture frames with the Frog and Toad prints or are those antiques/vintage?
