One Room Challenge Week 2 – Updates!

Date
Apr, 10, 2019

Well we still haven’t started tiling yet but I’ve made some other progress to share with you guys! Don’t forget to check out my week 1 post on all our half bathroom plans if you missed it.

We’re planning on getting the tile started this weekend or early next week. Since it’s a small space it should only take a few days so I’m not too worried about that. And once that’s done, there really isn’t much else to do!

This past week I finished up the vanity that I was working on. I bought it off Facebook Marketplace and refinished it to better match my style. I’ll be doing a more in depth post on that maybe next week but here is a peek at it!

This is the before:

And here is the after (without the doors back on). I used a Dark Walnut stain and added some gorgeous new hardware from Rejuvenation. To help protect against water damage, I sealed it with some Tung Oil.

Refinished Wood Vanity for Bathroom

The other thing I got done was buying the wood for the shelf between the white and green tile. I stained that up as well to match the vanity as close as I could and it’s all ready to go.

Floating Shelf Between Wall Tile

Lastly, I was having trouble deciding on a sink to go on top of the vanity. It needed to be a vessel that could sit on top, and had to have 3 holes to accomodate the faucet I got.

I was debating between a rectangular one similar to what’s in our upstairs bathroom, an oval shaped one or a circular one. And the winner was….oval.

White Oval Vessel Sink

I love the unique shape of this one and think it will add some nice round lines to all the other straight edges going on.

So that’s where we’re at! Not much to look at in terms of updates but a few behind the scenes things happening! Hopefully next week I’ll have some tile progress to share!

Love love love this whole bathroom. It’s so great. How did you refinish the vanity? Did you sand first? How do you prep before staining?

Ohh we just bought a painted art deco vanity with the expectation to use it in the bathroom – but now we are having cold feet on actually using it. I’m so worried about water splashing (two young boys and their ‘car washes’, know what I mean? Any idea what would best seal the paint?
I love that sink and my have to double check the measurements! It combines the hard angles I like, and the rounded front my husband likes.
Itching to see that tile go up!!!

We did a DIY vanity last fall and love it! Your cabinet is so beautiful! I can’t wait to see it with the sink on top!
