DIY Feather Mobile

DIY Feather Mobile

Guys. I’m having so much fun planning Baby Berto’s nursery. The decor is just too cute to handle and I want to buy everything peach and mint I can find. We’ve got the crib, which I’ll be sharing soon but other than that, I’m still playing around with a style board to see how things look.

Of course I knew I wanted to include some DIYs but wasn’t planning on making anything until later on. Until my friend Nicole from Meet the B’s asked if I wanted to do a DIY Nursery Blog Hop with her and a few other preggo bloggers and I just couldn’t say no. Oh and there’s a giveaway too!

DIY FEATHER MOBILE

DIY Feather Mobile

I pinned a feather mobile to my Nursery Board a little while ago and it kept popping into my head when I was trying to figure out what to make. This particular one had mint tips on the feathers but I couldn’t find a good mint spray paint that I liked so I decided to keep it more neutral and just add some pops of color with string.

MATERIALS

:: Embroidery Hoop
:: Feathers
:: Gold Bead Accents
:: Gold Feather Accent
:: White String for hanging and colored string for wrapping
:: Super Glue

I started out by cutting a piece of white string and tying it around the end of a feather.

Then I just slipped on the little gold beads. You want to make sure the beads you get have a big enough hole to fit over the end of the feather. I did something a little different for each feather to shake things up a bit. Some have 2 beads, some have 3 and I varied the placement of them as well as the length.

Once the beads are on, just tie your white string to the embroidery hoop. Repeat this step until your hoop is completely full. Mine ended up having 12 feathers.

I found some cool bigger gold leaves that I attached to a couple of the feathers as well which I really love.

Now you could totally leave it like this but I wanted to add some color and didn’t love that you could see the little knots where I tied the string to the hoop.

Before you get to the next step, you’ll want to add the strings you’ll use for hanging too so you can cover those up with the colored string. I cut four super long pieces and just tied them evenly around the hoop. I slid a little gold bead down through all the pieces of string which you can adjust as you want.

Start on the inside of the hoop with a little dab of super glue, and then wrapp the colored string around a bunch of times. If you’re going to alternate colors, make sure you have an even number of feathers on your hoop. I definitely had 11 and had to go back and add another 🙂

I used a little gold hook that we screwed into the ceiling to hang it up and that’s it! I’m seriously in love with this thing and the pictures really don’t do it justice. I was so used to shooting outside on our porch that I’m still figuring out the lighting in our new place and the best settings to use on my camera. So apologies if these aren’t quite up to par 😉

    A D O R A B L E I love your feather mobile much better than the original. The colored string around the top is such a clever idea along with the gold leaf hanging amongst the feathers. If this is an indication of what your nursery is going to look like Bre, then I can’t wait to see the reveal!
